Can someone point me to an address or a phone number for the company
that sells medical id bracelets? I looked in the last couple of copies
of the ADA magazine and there is one company that sells gold jewelry
with id info on it, but I wanted the company that has the 1-800 number
that lets people call for info about the person who is wearing the
bracelet. I think they’re MedAlert, but I’m not sure.
Thanks,
JoAnn

Joann,
If you have a Wall-Mart near you, go to the Pharmacist and ask if they
have the Medic Alert Bracelet Order form. Wall-Mart has an agreement
with Medic Alert that will allow you to order a stainless steel bracelet
for about $15.00.

Most pharmacies have them, or information on where to get really nice ones.
Try Walgreens if there is one in your town.

I read a study, which I unfortuantely didn’t keep, which indicated
that the more attractive, i.e. jewelry like, the id is the more
likely it was to be missed. The bracelets were much more likely
to be spotted than necklaces. Although emergency response workers
are trained to look for them, about half the time they got missed.
The October issue of Diabetes Forecast, which is the buyers guide
issue, lists a dozen or so. Medic Alert which is probably the
most widely known and, also, probably the ugliest can be reached
at 800-432-1009.

Here is the phone number for MedicAlert 800-432-5378. I would
recommend that if you purchase the necklace, it would be better for you
to buy just the emblem and not the chain. Their chains are too thin
and break very easily. I went to a jeweler to get a stronger chain and
it has lasted alot longer. The same problem occured when I purchased a
bracelet from them. It wasn’t strong enough either. Good luck

My bracelet and necklace came with stainless steel chains that
are quite strong, though the little loop that connects the chain to
the emblem does tend to bend easily. Perhaps your MedicAlert
chains were the silver or gold kind, which wouldn’t be as
strong as the stainless?
