I think you can safely say "hello" without violating anything. I’m sure no one
will fault you for it. So, Hi. I’m new too. I was diagnosed with Type II about
a month ago and I must say that I feel better than I have in the past 4 years.
I’m sure that folks aren’t going to jump all over someone for saying hi, at
least I would hope not.

Yeah, I second this request, if there is a FAQ, then, please point me towards
it.

‘Hello’ in return and welcome to the group.  Personally, I think it’s great
that you feel comfortable enough to post, and if you feel like you have
something you can share, feel free.  I’ve only been watching the group for
about three months or so now, and can vouch that 99.9% of the people here
are great!  The medical updates, personal experiences and support that I
find here in one day are usually more helpful than all the doctor’s
appointments I’ve had since I was diagnosed.  And as for the other 0.1% (who
shall remain nameless as I didn’t even bother to remember the names): don’t
let them bother you, as the number of people who are helpful and polite greatly
    outweigh them.
