I just read most of the articles in this group for the first time
today. I found out things here that my doctor(s) never told me. I have
read a lot of dr office magazines and literature about diabetes, but have
missed a lot somewhere. So I though I would pass on some problems untold
with me, a 10 year II insulin dependant.
I read about neuropathy and how it affects the extremeties. But nowhere
did it say that I would get nerve inflamation in radicular nerves in my
back. It never said I would get nerve irritation in my scalp. It is most
excrutiating pain. For those untold, beware. It is disabling. I take
anti-depressant drugs for suppresion of the pain which has numerous
side effects including dry-dry-dry mouth, dizziness, disorientation,
urinary hesitation (tough), blurred vision, impotence. I also take
codeine on a regular basis. Doctors like to treat it like it was
arthritis – IT IS NOT! Don’t let them talk you into it.
Just convincing them I was in pain was problem enough. If it doesn’t
bleed, they are less concerned.
Impotence from the drugs, impotence from the diabetes (never knew till
today) and guess what. I thought I was wierd till I read the article
about it here.
Its just a wierd malady, diabetes. I know, watch the BG and get some
excercise? And for the diabetic lady who wrote in asking about why
here blood sugar goes up when she eats candy. Well ….. she is worse
of than me in the untold department.

In article <48qt66$…@newsstand.cit.cornell.edu>, Byron Williams <b…@cornell.edu> says:
>My father, who has adult-onset diabetes, has developed a foot ulcer on
>his heel which has not healed in one year. We have put antibiotic salves
>(such as Neosporin), on it, changing the dressing twice a day, and it
>does not appear to be infected, however it also does not appear to be
>healing. From what I hear this is quite common with diabetics who have
>poor circulation in their feet. Does anyone out there have any
>experience with healing foot ulcers in diabetics? I would love to hear
>some opinions on the subject. Thank you!
Just came across a book called "DIABETES – Melaleuca Alternifolia Oil" by
S.T. Clark. It has a whole chapter dealing with the problem of foot ulcers
and infection. Price of the book is $5.95.
