Here's an interesting exercise: Pick 100 ZIP codes (which is how all the
data is available) and, in each ZIP, take the median earnings for family
practitioners and the median earnings for professors. Deduct the average
personal liability premiums paid by each.

The earnings thus adjusted are astonishingly close.

Ain't statistics grand?!?!?

That does not justify the fact that everyone earns top dollar, and the
few do hugely well. In any other area, including research and development,
only a few get those very large salaries. What if the average physician
earned the same as the average college professor, who, after all, trained
the MDs.

People do fail out of med school, albeit a very small number. Althout
passing standards should, imo, be higher, the bottom line is that by the
time you get to med school level, you generally have some pretty bright,
motivated people.
