I have been a type 1 diabetic since 1958. Health is reasonably good
and hba1 at last chack was 7.1
Insulin is currently Novorapid 3 times a day and Levemir 2 times a
day.
I saw the diabetic nurse for routine check-up yesterday and the
results of a blood test taken a month ago were OK except for one
thing (which I have never heard of before).
She referred to Creatinine and said my count was 130 – when I asked
what this was about she referred to the kidney function, and said the
normal count was 80.
I have now read several articles about this e.g., on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatinine
(as I say, I have never even heard of this before), and it appears
this is a problem with diabetes that can have serious consequences.
The article doesn’t say the normal count is 80 as the nurse said,
but 60-110 ?mol/L in a man,
Furthermore, I also read that it is lower in vegetarians. As I have
been vegetarian since 1978, I would have thought my count would
therefore, definitely be lower than 130.
I have to do a urine specimen and return it to the surgery next week
for more tests.
Is the situation I have described above anything/something to be
very concerned about?
Thanks
David
