Discussion of diabetes management in day to day life

Fatigue and working at home

I’ve been diabetic for about 6 years now. I’m so tired all the time. I
just went on Lantus and am ramping up to the dose that may be
effective. At least I’m lucky enough to be able to work at home, so
the fatigue is easier to deal with. Anyone else really tired a lot?

    Hi Momo

It’s a bit hard to answer without more info. I used to be tired a lot,
before diagnosis. It’s hard to tell if it was related to the BGs, the
weight or plain bone laziness:-) Most who know me think it was the final
    one.

Welcome to the group. Are you Type 1 or 2, using insulin, meds or just
diet and exercise? Have you been lurking for a while, or just jumped
    straight in?

Lots of questions – do you have other problems, what are your Bgs like,
A1c, weight etc.. Only answer what you’re comfortable with, and remember
    we’re just fellow-sufferers, not medics.

Others will be along to say g’day; nice to "see" a new face.

What does a medical transcriptionist do?

I experienced a boost in energy levels when I went on insulin.

For me the before and after was so different that it turned me into an
    "Insulin Nag".

How does one get to do transcription at home?  All the ads I see
demand experience.  I know I can do it, but …

I often feel drained of energy, but in my case (I think)
it’s due to low thyroid hormones.  Diabetes can certainly
contribute to similar symptoms.  So can other things.  So
this is a case where you need a good doctor’s input.

(Meaning a doctor who won’t automatically assume that any
symptom you have comes from the disease that happens to
    have already been diagnosed.)

    Hi,

My AIC is great at 5.6. I’m 40 years old and have had chronic fatigue,
debilitating at time BEFORE I become fat and diabetic. It started when
I was about 15-years-old. Since becoming fat and diabetic it’s worse.
I’m on Amaryl, Glucophage, Starlix and Lantus Insulin 50 units x once
a day. My fasting is still too high at about 160. I’m still ramping up
on the Lantus up to 100 units, possibly.

To whoever asked, MTs are medical transcriptionists who transcribe
medical dictation. I’m very lucky to be able to work at home as it’s
easier to deal w/ the fatigue.

I’m tired all the time too, but I don’t think diabetes is the cause in my
    case.

‘Twas me.  Yes, I know what they do, and I know I can do it,
but I don’t know how to get the chance to prove it.
