I just can't resist posting (grin)

I never have to have a colonoscopy again!

I've had many, then with Ulcerative Colitis, it got so bad, they said I had
30 days to live.
So they took out my entire colon, looked at it, and said, yep, I would have
lived maybe 30 more days.

That was back in May 1996.
By the way, there are 500,000 of us in the US, with about 40,000 more each
year.
The surgery gave us the whole quality of life back!

Anyhooooo, I just couldn't resist crowing a bit about never having another
colonoscopy again (grin)

I can't even be called a semi-colon

My sisters Dr said she could use a small amount of vaselene (you know where)
so she would not be so raw from cleaning out.
Just on the outside.
The Dr said it would not affect the test at all.
She said it made a world of difference in the rawness.

DON'T LET THEM GIVE YOU GOLIGHTLY AS A PREP.

THEY GAVE IT TO ME AND IT BURST A HOLE IN MY COLON.

I SPENT 2 MONTHS IN THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE OF THE GOLIGHTLY AND THEY NEVER DID DO THE COLONOSCOPY.

If you need some carbs to cover insulin and oral diabetic medicines, you
could drink white grape juice, white cranberry juice, or apple juice. These
were all allowed in my husbands liquid diet. Seven-Up or Sprite are also
options. Liquids that are on the sick day diet are options. I am the
diabetic, but I know my endocrinologist would just say get the same number
of carbs. That can be done with clear fruit juices. Get the protein with
chicken or beef broth. If you are desparate for vegetables then vegetable
broth. Nothing red, since they are looking for red areas when they do the
colonoscopy so the red dyes will cause some unnecessary worries. Of course,
do a constant check of your sugars. Keep taking insulin and meds. The
endocrinologist will tell you if you need to reduce the meds at any time.
The liver produces sugar if it thinks the body needs it so you still need
the insulin or meds.

I'm supposed to schedule one of these too (just baseline since having passed
age 50). Everyone says the prep is the worst, but I'm still not looking
forward to it and keep putting off making the appt. It's been enough of an
issue just trying to learn to deal with teh diabetes.

I didn't have a choice. The doctor (he's really good) escorted me into the
gastroenterologist's (sp) office to book the appt at the same time I was
having my diabetes checkup. He's smart. Now it's done and over and I don't
have to think about it anymore.

I think there are a lot of sugar free jello like stuff that is OK. Not red,
for some reason. Diet Ice tea and soft drinks.

The wife's due one of those (next month) and she's got to eat NOTHING solid
for 48 hours and then drink only clear liwuids, which just about includes
flavoured water. Oh, and she's got to drink that stuff that clears the tubes
AGAIN:-))))

All I can say is "The clearer the better, so the doc can see better"

I think I'd be very careful about how much BG lowering medication I took
during the run up to the 'scopy.
