I never noticed any effects on my insulin dose patterns when I used
either ACE or ARB inhibitors. That means that nothing much happened to my
bG when:
a. I started an ACE and used one for a year
b. I stopped the ACE because of the cough
c. I started an ARB
Novomix is not only an old fashioned and very dangerous insulin for a T1,
it is Godawful difficult to use. I can’t really see how you can compare
daily doses between a Novomix regime and a NovoRapid-Levemir regime in any
kind of reliable fashion. The record keeping would be horrendous; you
would have to test very often during the day, and your final comparison
would probably have to be a comparison of HbA1c on the two regimes.
Last week, I attended a lecture by a diabetologist who is also personally
diabetic. His comments on ACE were striking. His opinion: All
diabetics should take an ACE no matter what their blood pressure. He
prescribed both an ACE and an ARB, simultaneously, for himself.

I have a stevia plant growing in my garden but no idea how to use the
leaves for sweetening of food. Does anybody know?
Hello Group:
My thanks to all the kind people who sent me advice.
I appreciate your support.
I’ve reduced total food intake, cutting back carbs, and shifted my
exercise to afternoons. It’s too early to tell whether this will do
the trick.
Monday morning I will have a complete blood workup.

I have been using Amaryl and Actos for 2 years now. I have Dawn Phenomonon and
cannot get my FBG down below 155. My A1C’s are staying at 7.4 because of it.
Finally my doctor ordered me to use a small amount of Lantus. I tried it (one
day now) and my readings are going up and staying at 170 to 185 ALL day.
I feel awful. I have problems with medications….always having opposite
reaction than what is expected. Could this be what is happening.
My diabetes educator has been on the phone with me all day and also through
e-mail and she is totally confused. I feel awful. Nausea beyond belief.
Weakness and shaky.
I have been exercising on my airwalker and BS went down to 170, but it is up
again after eating lunch……well balanced.
Thanks for any answers.

In the last 3 plus years, I have read a lot of research articles on the
causes and treatments of type 2 diabetes. In a somewhat outline form is
a summary of the variables considered to investigate and increase
understanding and therapies for diabetics.
Qualities of the subjects:
I. Hyperglycemics
A. Obese
B. Lean
II. Impaired glucose tolerance/impaired fasting glucose
A. Obese
B. Lean
III. Normoglycemics (usually controls in studies)
A. Obese
B. Lean
C. Young, healthy
1. Family history of diabetes
2. No family history of diabetes
Types of physiological measurements
I. Body composition
A. Body mass index (BMI)
B. Waist size
C. Waist to hips ratio
D. Location of fat
II. Glucose control
A. Fasting blood glucose
B. Postprandial blood glucose
C. HbA1c
III. Pancreatic beta cell function
A. Fasting insulin
B. Postprandial insulin
C. C-peptide
IV. Lipids profile
A. Total cholesterol
B. High density lipid cholesterol (HDL)
C. Low density lipid cholesterol (LDL)
D. Very low density lipid cholesterol (VLDL)
E. Triglycerides
F. APO-A and B
V. Types of therapies
A. Diet
1. Low fat or high fat including fat quality
2. Low carbohydrate or high carbohydrate including quality, such
as glycemic index and glycemic load
3. Fibers
a. Soluble
b. Insoluble
B. Exercise
1. Aerobic
2. Anaerobic
3. Strength
4. Endurance
5. Sedentary/Active
6. Muscle fiber type and type of energy used
C. Oral drugs including combination therapies
D. Exogenous insulins
E. Combination oral drugs and insulins
When studies are compared with each other, profiles begin to emerge.
Most type 2 diabetics have hyperinsulinemia when they are able to
control (term used loosely) blood glucose using either by diet and
exercise or by oral drugs (otherwise noninsulin dependent DMs). Type 2s
that have progressed to the point of their disease where diet, exercise,
and oral drugs are not effective enough have no other choice but insulin
injections. Strange as it may seem, I knew I was hyperinsulinemic
before I was diagnosed with frank diabetes, but I did not realize that
that condition remained until I started looking at fasting insulin
secretion in normalglycemics. I am in the process of developing support
information for these comments. Some articles that I could access full
PDF copy a few weeks ago are no longer available.
Conversion factors are needed to compare the results of various studies.
1. To convert values for glucose to millimoles per liter (mmol/L),
multiply mg/dl figures by 0.05551.
2. To convert values for plasma insulin (yU/ml)to picomoles per liter
(pmol/L), multiply by 6. ("y" is not the correct symbol but I don’t have
the correct font.)
3. To convert values for C-peptide to nanomoles per liter, multiply
ng/ml figures by 0.331.
4. To convert values for cholesterol particles to millimoles per liter,
multiply mg/dl figures by 0.02586.
5. To convert values for triglycerides to millimoles per liter,
multiply mg/dl figures by 0.01129.

Does the dawn effect occur for some/all/none non-diabetics, or is it an
aspect of mis-regulation of insulin & BG associated with diabetes?
Fyi, this came to me by email:
